LAUREN B. HOMER, Managing Partner

Lauren is a recognized expert on international laws affecting the operations of nonprofit and religious organizations.  Her specialty is helping U.S. based nonprofit organizations establish and maintain a legal presence in foreign countries, particularly those that strictly regulate the nonprofit sector.   Lauren was involved in many "firsts" for U.S. organizations seeking the right to obtain legal entity status in Russia and other countries in the early 1990's.  Since 1995, she has worked in countries on almost every continent.  She has been increasingly involved in the greater China region, including in Macau, Hong Kong, and the People's Republic of China.  She has expertise in U.S. and international nonprofit corporation law, insurance coverage disputes, adoption law, contracts, and employment issues.

Lauren is a graduate of Duke University (BA 1967), Yale University (Masters of City Planning 1970), Cambridge University, UK (Research Student in the School of Architecture 1968-69), and Columbia University Law School (JD 1977, Managing Editor Columbia Law Review, Stone Scholar).    Lauren has served as a law clerk to a federal judge on the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, as a Special Assistant to the first U.S. Secretary of Education, and worked as a commercial litigator at major law firms in New York City and Washington, DC.

Lauren is admitted to the Bar in the District of Columbia, Virginia, New York, and Missouri and is a member of the American Bar Association, its International Law Division, and its subcommittee on Nonprofit Law. 

Lauren frequently speaks and comments on laws affecting nonprofit and religious organizations and appears regularly at international conferences, government hearings, and academic meetings.  Lauren also works on legal reform, rule of law, and administration of law issues with regulators, academics, and policy makers in the U.S. and in foreign countries.  She is a Senior Fellow at the Whitney Harris Institute for Global Legal Studies at Washington University Law School, St. Louis, and a Fellow of the International Academy for Freedom of Religion and Belief.
